Mill Creek SSA Sidewalk Program
Kane County
OBJECTIVE
The project aimed to replace deteriorated sidewalk sections and upgrade deficient sidewalk ramps to meet current ADA/PROWAG standards within the North Mill Creek Neighborhood in Kane County, Illinois.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project involved the removal and replacement of sidewalks, curbs, and sidewalk ramps to enhance accessibility and ensure compliance with ADA regulations. HLR utilized a multi-tiered design approach, beginning with a GIS-based inventory to assess sidewalk conditions and estimate maintenance needs.
For complex sidewalk ramp locations, HLR developed site-specific designs that were incorporated into the contract proposal. The proposal adhered to Kane County Purchasing Department standards while integrating IDOT and HLR specifications for construction.
Plans were finalized in winter 2023/2024, with bidding in spring 2024. Construction took place over the spring and summer months, during which HLR’s construction engineering team managed the schedule, monitored quantities and overages, and resolved layout challenges caused by right-of-way constraints. The project was successfully completed in September 2024.
