Chicago Street Bridge
City of Elgin
OBJECTIVE
Complete the environmental, topographic, and land surveys and hydraulics analysis for the proposed bridge replacement of Chicago Street over the Fox River. HLR is serving as a subconsultant to TranSystems Corporation for this project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Elgin is proposing to replace the historic bridge over the Fox River at Chicago Street. HLR’s scope of work, as a subconsultant to TranSystems Corporation, includes environmental, topographic, and land surveys, as well as a hydraulics analysis.
HLR prepared an aquatic resource delineation report, which included data sheets, floristic quality assessments, figures, photographic documentation, and possible permitting requirements. The tree survey and bridge bat habitat surveys were conducted alongside the aquatic resource delineation to maximize project efficiency.
A Preliminary Environmental Site Assessment (PESA) is underway to review records, site conditions, and land use history for potential Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs).
The hydraulics analysis involves developing a proposed condition model for the preferred bridge structure configuration. HLR will complete a comprehensive hydraulic report, including a project narrative, preliminary bridge design and hydraulic report (Form BLR 10210), hydraulic certification, and other required exhibits.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Completed aquatic resource delineation, tree survey, and bridge bat habitat survey.
- Conducted topographic and land surveys, including boundary survey for right-of-way needs.
- PESA report in progress to assess potential environmental concerns.
- Hydraulics analysis includes an updated riverine hydraulic model for the proposed structure.
- Ongoing development of the hydraulic report to support bridge replacement design.
