Athletic Fields Index

School District U-46

OBJECTIVE

The athletic directors at each of the five high schools within School District U-46 desired improvements to their facilities to match or surpass the conditions at the other schools. Consequently, the School District aimed to create a document to track the condition of these facilities, facilitating the process of prioritizing improvements at each school.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

School District U-46 entered into a contract with Hampton, Lenzini, and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) to prepare a comprehensive report evaluating and comparing the outdoor sports facilities at the five high schools within the district.

In the initial stage of the project, all the schools were visited to document the existing facilities. Standard photographs were taken, and aerial photographs of each school were collected using a drone. Subsequently, a ranking system was developed to assess the various facilities, which included football/track stadiums, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, and various practice fields.

The report comprised detailed descriptions and photographs of the existing conditions at all locations, along with site plans plotted on the aerial photographs. Additionally, the ranking system for each type of facility was clearly defined, and tables were created to summarize and compare all the rankings for each facility at the individual schools. Each school was assigned an overall score based on the average of scores for each type of facility. Furthermore, the report featured diagrams of the courts and fields from the National Federation of State High School Associations, providing a reference for planning future improvements.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Summary of outdoor sports facilities at five high schools
  • Ranking of facilities at each school
  • Comparison ranking of all five schools
  • Ongoing updates to the report as facility improvements are made
