SEBA PARK GRAND OPENING
Everyone has childhood memories of playing on a playground, but for children with disabilities, the opportunity to create those memories often doesn’t exist – that is until SEBA Park was created.
SEBA Park, located in South Elgin, is an all-inclusive playground that offers a unique place for children to laugh, play, and learn, no matter their abilities. It is a place where all children can come together despite any differences and just be kids.
Facilities within the park, many of which we donated our services to, include ramps that connect different play stations, customized swings with specialized safety belts, and rubberized turf. With the help of HLR’s accessible and accommodating designs, this park has gone far beyond a standard playground.
Saturday, August 8, 2015, marked the ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening, and the park was met with an outpour of support from the local community who attended the event in large numbers.
Shane Hamilton, Superintendent, Parks and Recreation Department, also showed his support for the park, saying, “This is a place where children won’t get made fun of because they are different, a place where parents won’t get stared at because their loved one is unique, a place free of barriers and stereotypes; a place where a kid can simply be a kid, regardless of their ability.”
Thanks to SEBA Park, now every child will have the opportunity to play on a playground and create those lifelong childhood memories. Everyone at HLR is so proud of this inclusive addition to the community, and we were honored to have been a part of it!
