I-90 Jane Addams Memorial Tollway Construction Layout
Successful reconstruction of the I-90 Jane Addams Memorial Tollway relies heavily on accurate and correct construction layout to avoid delays and ensure that all improvements are built properly the first time.
HLR has performed construction layout for nine projects on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway and established control throughout the entire corridor for use by all contractors. Layout on the eastbound and westbound reconstruction between IL Route 25 and IL Route 53 consisted of over 20 miles of new pavement, seven tollway plazas, 53 noise/retaining walls, and two bridges (I-90 over the CN Railroad and the Dryland Bridge). This included several ramps, curb, barrier bases, lighting, traffic management system structures, underground utilities, and signs.
In addition, we completed four miles of reconstruction and widening on the eastbound lanes from U.S. 20 to IL Route 47. The project included two new ramps, all-new storm sewer, and lighting. Our team staked four miles of new pavement and widening, westbound between the Wisconsin Central Railroad overpass and IL 47, including two new ramps, new storm sewer, variable-height median, and lighting.
HLR also provided the construction layout of the $39 million interchange project at I-90 and IL Route 47. This complex project involved new electronic I-Pass toll plazas servicing six new ramps, allowing full access in all directions. As the Illinois Tollway’s first “green” interchange, the project also included many new environmentally-friendly initiatives.
