County-Wide Traffic Signal Operations Management
Driver frustration, delays in emergency-response times, and increased air pollution and traffic noise are the unwelcome results of poorly-timed signal systems. Adjusting the timing of interconnected traffic signals can help alleviate traffic congestion along arterials and in downtown areas.
HLR performed weekly monitoring of traffic signal systems and detector diagnostics, coordinated Electrical Maintenance Contracts (EMC), and performed on-call construction inspection for traffic signal projects (maintenance transfers, turn-ons, and periodic inspections) for the Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT).
Our traffic team investigated and resolved complaints, performed plan/catalog cut review, developed equipment specifications and recommendations, and prepared traffic signal plans for work performed by electrical maintenance contractors. We provided assistance to KDOT personnel in the field, performed troubleshooting, determined the need for upgrading signal cabinet component hardware and software, and providde training for signal maintenance personnel.
We also provided assistance in the development of the County’s Arterial Operation Center, including review of proposed components, coordination with the County and their vendor, and inspection of installed components to ensure they operate properly to meet the County’s requirements. Our traffic team reviewed construction and timing plans prepared by other consultants for KDOT prior to implementation.
