Barge Loadout Facility Survey Monitoring
Our team performed a hydrographic survey of a coal loadout facility in Kentucky, along the Ohio River.
A quarterly inspection is performed around a large coal barge load-out facility to determine a dredging schedule. Our surveyors integrated a GPS unit with a sonar transponder that applied the depth measured to the stored location data. Thousands of measurements are made every quarter in order to overlap the previous data. This allows for a comparison and data analysis of the amount of silt buildup around the facility. If the water depth around the facility gets too low for the barges to be moved, a dredge is completed and a rate of the silt filling the area is calculated.
