HLR SPEAKS TO STUDENTS AT LYONS TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL
Recently, Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) had the honor speaking to math students at Lyons Township High School in La Grange, IL about the importance of math in engineering.
HLR’s Executive Vice President and Environmental Services Manager, Erica Spolar, spoke to two math classes and demonstrated how we use math in our every day engineering work. Erica talked about how math applies to surveying, as well as traffic, structural, construction, drainage, and environmental engineering. Students were also given a hands-on activity known as the “gumdrop challenge” which had them designing a structure strong enough to hold the weight of one of their textbooks using only 10 gumdrops and 20 toothpicks.
HLR believes in the importance of giving back to the communities in which we work, live, and play, and we love having the opportunity to inspire the next generation of civil engineers and surveyors!
