HLR OFFICES VOLUNTEER AT LOCAL FOOD BANKS
When it comes to volunteering, the month of October has been a busy one at HLR! Both our Elgin and Mt. Carmel teams have given their time to help local food pantries.
In Mt. Carmel, we hosted a food drive where volunteers collected five large crates of non-perishable food items for the WADI Food Bank in Albion, IL. This food bank location is part of a network located throughout southern Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Collectively, they distribute more than 8 million pounds of food each year to over 250 feeding programs in 33 counties. We are proud to have been able to contribute to that total.
In Elgin, team members helped the Northern Illinois Food Bank by volunteering at their warehouse location. Our group got down to business right away by helping inspect, sort, and pack all of their food donations before they got shipped out to the hungry. In one week, the Northern Illinois Food Bank serves more than 71,000 people, so there was plenty of food for our volunteers to sort through. In fact, our group packed 928 pounds of food during our shift, which resulted in 773 meals.
Thank you to our Elgin and Mt. Carmel offices for donating your time – we look forward to more volunteer opportunities to come!
