HLR GIVES BACK AT THE NORTHERN IL FOOD BANK
On August 16th employees from Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) and family members donated their time sorting food – specifically tomatoes – at the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva.
The food bank relies on volunteers to help sort and pack food, so when several thousand pounds of tomatoes were donated, it was imperative that the produce be sorted quickly to retain its freshness. The volunteers from HLR were definitely up to the challenge and sorted over 9,300 lbs to be distributed to food pantries throughout Northern Illinois! The tomatoes were generously donated by MightyVine, a 15-acre greenhouse in Rochelle, Illinois known for their delicious, sustainable tomatoes.
With its vision that no one go hungry in Northern Illinois, the food bank serves 71,500 people each week through its feeding programs and its network of 800 pantries, soup kitchens, and feeding sites. As it is our mission at HLR to work hard, have fun, and give back, we were honored to be able to give back to our community by helping these sites get fresh tomatoes!
