Structural engineers from HLR designed a new bridge to replace the aging Manito Road bridge spanning the Mackinaw River. The structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge was replaced with a six-span composite steel plate girder bridge. The design also included roadway upgrades, such as up-to-date guardrails and new roadway approaches with wider shoulders, to improve the safety of the heavily-traveled bridge. Our team’s ability to efficiently gather cost estimates and complete the necessary paperwork and permits ensured that our client, the Tazewell County Highway Department, was able to secure the necessary federal funding to complete the project.
HLR is honored to have the Manito Road Bridge project recognized by the APWA. Congratulations to our team on your award-winning design!
