Kane County Bridge Safety Inspections
Biennial bridge inspections for the Kane County Division of Transportation are necessary to plan future improvements and keep the public safe from aging infrastructure.
HLR’s structural experts have provided over 120 detailed bridge inspections, structure evaluations, underwater inspections, scour critical evaluations, design countermeasures, and planning recommendations to the County for over 10 years. Final inspection reports include a thorough narrative of all structural and geometric deficiencies along with an outline and estimate of recommended repair or rehabilitative improvements. This work also includes completing and submitting all necessary NBIS documents to IDOT. Additional structural services are provided as needed, such as repair and rehabilitation projects.
HLR and its subconsultant provide equipment for hands-on access to all bridge components including manlifts, snooper trucks, sonar-capable boats, and confined space entry equipment. This information is tracked by the County using the Bridge Management Program originally implemented by HLR staff which provides a simple way to store inspection information and plan upcoming bridge maintenance.
