HLR PARTICIPATES IN APWA’S EMERGING LEADERS ACADEMY
Many HLR employees are involved in the American Public Works Association (APWA) as a way to grow professionally, network, and learn about what’s happening in the industry.
Natural Resources Manager, Karen Kase, is an active member in the Fox Valley branch and recently received the opportunity to participate in the APWA Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA). The ELA is a year-long program consisting of individual and group projects focused on building leadership and management skills. Over 100 public works professionals applied for the program, with only 16 selected to participate.
During her experience, Karen connected and worked with fellow ELA members from various public works backgrounds as well as participated in events she might otherwise not have the opportunity to do. She was selected to be a part of an all-woman panel at the Public Works Expo (PWX) where she discussed career challenges women face in the public works industry. Karen and the rest of the Emerging Leaders Academy also presented as a group at the PWX on one of the projects they completed.
